Rob Zombie‘s Halloween II will be getting a re-release at the end of October for special midnight screenings. The Weinstein Company must have realized how stupid it was to open the horror pic last september, opposite the similarly gory Final Destination. And it could mark Zombie’s swan song with the genre he has become synonymous with. In an interview with Read more…

New ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ Trailer

September 30th, 2009 No comments

A new trailer for Wes Anderson‘s first animated movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox, due out November 25, has arrived. It has a bit more meat than the teaser trailer that was released in August. The movie basically looks like a hybrid of Pixar and The Royal Tenenbaums. That means it should be visually interesting… and possibly depressing for small children.

STEVEN_SODERBERGH_KNOCKOUT

Steven Soderbergh has been on a career roller coaster in the last few months. Most recently, he’s had a modest critical and commercial success with The Informant!, which is currently in theaters, but before that he saw his film The Girlfriend Experience flop in its theatrical release earlier this summer, right before he was booted from directing Sony’s Moneyball, just days before production was set to begin. With all the bad buzz, it’s no wonder he was recently Read more…

CHRISTIAN_POVEDA_MY_CRAZY_LIFE

In Europe, movies are finally going digital. “It’s here; it’s real,” says a spokesperson for the European distributor Cine Classics. According to Variety, the first film to be released throughout Europe by satellite, as part of the digital rollout, will be Christian Poveda‘s 2008 documentary La Vida Loca (The Crazy Life) about the well known Mara street gangs in El Salvador. The announcement is bittersweet, due to the fact that, on Sept. 2, Poveda was killed in a suburb of El Salvador by a Mara gang member after he had completed a day of filming for his next project. Poveda, who had been Read more…

‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Trailer

September 29th, 2009 No comments

To say this remake of Wes Craven‘s A Nightmare on Elm Street is unnecessary would be like saying that Michael Jackson has been overexposed lately. As if Michael Bay‘s producer credit wasn’t enough reason to skip out on this sure-to-be-crapfest, the glimpse they show of Freddy is very disappointing. They make him look like a childish Michael Myers. Not even close to the sneering, wrinkly-skinned face inhabited by Robert Englund. Note to producers: when giving a horror icon a makeover, softer is not better.

From time to time celebrities do step out of LA and New York to venture over to the windy city! They’re not always A-list, but what the heck, we’ll take what we can get. This week’s sightings, as compiled by Red Eye:

Film director Roman Polanski, 76, was arrested Sunday, in Zurich, Switzerland, where he had traveled to accept an award as part of the Zurich Film Festival. The season premiere of NBC’s Saturday Night Live aired this weekend started off with a bang. And not just because Transformers star/Maxim cover girl Megan Fox was hosting the show. In a sketch towards the end of night, new cast member Jenny Slate accidentally dropped the F-bomb in a sketch where she played a biker chick who hosts a low budget, offbeat chat show (a sketch format that you’d think SNL would finally be getting tired of after Read more…
