Business was booming at the box office over the busy holiday weekend. Despite several new releases including Disney’s Old Dogs, the top three remained holdovers from last week. The Twilight Saga: New Moon added another $42M to make its domestic total $231M. The real surprise though, was the continuing success of Warner Bros. smartly marketed The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock, which nearly matched Twilight‘s numbers, earning $40M in second place. It would be hard to find a more successful example of Read more…

VULTURE_DROPPINGS_THANKSGII

It’s time once again for the weekly roundup of my favorite pop culture atrocities, misfires and entertaining trainwrecks. This week’s theme: Thanksgiving.

It’s an excuse for families to gorge themselves on turkey, get plastered and then blame each other for all of life’s problems…or give thanks, I mean. It’s also a subject that Hollywood loves to tackle. What TV show hasn’t had a Thanksgiving episode? What year goes by without some lame primetime special? It’s a nice little holiday and all, but Read more…

After Atlantis was released in 2001, it seemed Disney was ready to abandon 2D animation for good. And when their attempt to mix computer animation with 2D, Treasure Planet, resulted in financial disaster a year later, that was the final nail in the coffin. Seven years later, they’re ready to give it another go, but the studio is Read more…

‘What Lies’ In A Thrift Store

THRIFT_STORE_WHAT_LIES_BENEATH

The other day I was at the Ark Thrift Shop, sifting through piles of old telephones and novelty mugs, when I came across a curious piece of movie memorabilia: the framed newspaper clipping used in the film What Lies Beneath. There was absolutely no explanation as to why this was randomly placed in the store, but, I must say, I had to do a double-take. “Is that Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford?” I thought. Then I read the Read more…

House Arrest Likely for Roman Polanski, Swiss Courts Set Bail At $4.9M

ROMAN_POLANSKI

It’s still amazing to me, the lengths that Roman Polanski went to in order to avoid prosecution for his 1977 sexual assault against, then thirteen year old, Samantha Greimer. Did he ever have any thoughts about the woman he entangled in this nonsense? For as long as he spent in exile, Greimer has had to Read more…

HEY_I_THINK_I_SEE_A_CELEBRITY_11_23

From time to time celebrities do step out of LA and New York to venture over to the windy city! They’re not always A-list, but what the heck, we’ll take what we can get. This week’s sightings:

Two of the female stars of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Christian Serratos and Ashley Greene, descended into Chicago during the weekend to promote their new movie. When asked about the romance between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in an interview with Red Eye, Serratos said, Read more…
