‘Spinal Tap’ Frontman Christopher Guest: ‘Unwigged’ And Pissed Off

The multi-talented “mockumentary” pioneer Christopher Guest (the first head in the above poster) recently spoke to the Onion A.V. Club and came off as, well, a bit cranky. Among other things, the man behind Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman and This is Spinal Tap talked about his dislike of the term “mockumentary” and how people don’t “get” his filmmaking process.

He also deflated expectations for his upcoming tour with fellow Spinal Tap alums Harry Shearer and Michael McKean by informing fans that they should not be expecting a flashy pyrotechnics spectacle with “weird outfits and wigs.” Why would anyone expect that from a tour labeled “Unwigged and Unplugged”? We all know that’s what Cher is for.

At any rate, I’m still a huge admirer of Guest’s work and I look forward to hearing the accoustic version of “Big Bottom”, stonehenge or no stonehenge.
