For some television series the final episode is merely the opportunity to launch a big screen movie franchise. Sex and the City spawned a hit movie with a sequel that is set to open this summer and a movie version of the long running Fox series 24 is currently in the works. Ana Ortiz, the actress who has portrayed Hilda Suarez on Ugly Betty since 2006, is hoping the same will happen to the once popular ABC show. It’s getting the axe after experiencing a significant dip in ratings this season, but Ortiz says she’s optimistic that the characters will be seen again; at the multiplex. She told Latina Magazine:

I will say this: It’s open. There may be a movie! It’s something that we’ve been talking about and it’s something that America Ferrera would really love to do. That woman has so much determination that I can’t imagine anything she puts her mind to not getting done.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but in this economy, it seems unlikely that a studio will green light a big budget movie version of Ugly Betty. If the producers want to get it on the fast track, maybe they should rethink it as a 3-D animated kids movie.
