Bill Condon Chosen To Direct Fourth ‘Twilight’ Film

Landing a directing gig for one of the Twilight movies seems to be a win-win situation. They’re critic proof and the number of bad reviews that the first two installments received actually seemed directly proportional to their huge box office grosses. In January it was announced that Chris Weitz, who directed New Moon, would not be at the helm of the fourth installment. Summit released a press release yesterday announcing that Bill Condon has been chosen to direct Breaking Dawn which, like the final Harry Potter film, will be released in two parts. Condon’s last directorial effort was Dreamgirls in 2006. In the press release, Summit production head Erik Fieg said:

Bringing Stephenie Meyer’s BREAKING DAWN to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity.

Author Stephenie Meyer added:

I’m so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he’s going to be a great fit, and I’m excited to see what he does with the material.
