Boy Oh ‘Boyle’! ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Ends With A Shocker
In a shocker of a finale last night, Susan Boyle, the irrepressible YouTube sensation heard round the world, came in second place on Britain’s Got Talent. And to make matters worse she lost to a dance troupe named Diversity, which sounds like the name of a motivational group that makes the rounds at Elementary schools. The winners of Britain’s Got Talent will receive $160,000 and a spot on the roster of the Royal Variety Performance presented in front of the Queen.
The upset was shocking because her rags to riches story has received the most attention out of any of the other contestants. The YouTube video of her first performance has garnered over ninety million hits and the press tour that followed culminated with an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Even celebrities like Demi Moore voiced their support (via Twitter).
However, her image had taken a tumble recently with stories surfacing that she had suffered slight brain damage as a result of being deprived of oxygen as a baby and was cracking under the pressure of the competition. In his official blog, one of the Britain’s Got Talent judges, Piers Morgan described her as,
a frightened rabbit caught in the headlights.”
After all is said and done, Ms. Boyle should do just fine. I’m sure a touring company of Les Miserables would be happy to cast her as Peasant #3. You can see her final performance in the video below.
