Bryan Singer Hints at a Return to ‘X-Men’
At the Pusan International Film Festival today, filmmaker Bryan Singer expressed interest in going back to the franchise he started back in 2000. He told AP reporters,
I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise… I’ve been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast. The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is–the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition.”
Singer’s last two flicks were the poorly received Superman Returns (yet another re-imagining that didn’t do justice to the original) and the Tom Cruise Nazi thriller, Valkyrie. That movie, in particular, was hit with a storm of bad press and failed to excite audiences (unlike the similarly themed Inglourious Basterds, which did excite audiences). Add to the mix the enormous box office gross for X-Men Origins: Wolverine last May and it’s easy to see why Singer would be running back to his beloved X-Men franchise. It’s a safer bet. And in this economy, that’s worth a lot.
