63rd Cannes Film Festival Lineup Announced: ‘Robin Hood’ Selected As Opening Night Film

CANNES_2010

The lineup for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which begins May 12, has been announced. Ridley Scott‘s Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe will be shown opening night, in the slot usually reserved for big splashy Hollywood movies. It can be a dubious distinction, as past titles have included, Godzilla in 1998 and Quentin Tarantino‘s Death Proof in 2007. This year’s jury president is Tim Burton, who is still riding high from the fact that his last movie, Alice in Wonderland, rode the 3-D wave to become the highest grossing movie of his career. Other notable members of the jury include French filmmaker Claire Denis and Atom Egoyan. The list of directors of some of the movies being shown at the festival reads like a who’s who of the major filmmakers of the last 15 years; there are offerings from Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, Mike Leigh and Greg Araki. Thankfully, nothing is in 3-D.  Full list after the jump.
