Chicago Blues Festival 2009: Big Crowds, Long Lines and Sharon Jones

jazz-blogpicsWhat’s the best part about summer in Chicago? It isn’t the weather, Lollapalooza or our new parking meter system. It’s the free concerts and festivals. They give summer a pulse even if it does feel like October. Everyone was out and about at the Chicago Blues Festival this past weekend in Grant Park. The alcohol situation was another story, though. They make you purchase special tickets to buy food and drinks. I ended up spending half the time waiting in line to buy the vouchers and then waiting in a separate line to exchange them for the beer. I felt myself getting lightheaded and, by the time I finally joined the enthusiastic crowd of dancers,  Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings were already busting out the encore. I can’t complain, though, because it was free. More pics after the jump.
