Courtney Cox puts the Kibosh on ‘Friends: The Movie’

What to do if you’re an out-of-work actor who spent years on a hugely successful sitcom and now wants to relive his glory days? For James Michael Tyler, who you may or may not remember as Gunther on Friends, the answer is: to start a rumor about a big screen reunion. Back in September, Tyler ignited a media firestorm by telling the London tabloid News of the World,

Friends: The Movie is definitely on. I still keep in touch with a lot of the cast and they say that they are really keen. I am definitely on board to do the film.”

It turns out that may have been wishful thinking on Tyler’s part. Courtney Cox, who is busy these days bad-mouthing Botox and working on her new “hit” show, Cougartown, recently took time out of her schedule to deny rumors that the reunion is in the works. She tells AOL,

(There are) No plans for a reunion. I can’t see it happening.”

Somebody oughta break the sad news to Tyler, who so excitedly told the press,

I really loved my time on the show and I am looking forward to meeting up with the old gang again. I just hope we can do justice to the show in a film.”

Perhaps he was talking about a porno movie based on Friends, because that seems more likely. In the clip below, Tyler literally relives his glory days on a recreated “Central Perk” set to promote the show’s 15th anniversary DVD collection.
