Dane Cook Bombs At The Teen Choice Awards: Tells Vanessa Hudgens, “Girl, You Got To Keep Yo Clothes On.”
The Teen Choice Awards aired last night on Fox and things got a little awkward. The world’s most annoying and least funny comedian Dane Cook was on hand to present the prestigious Choice Hottie awards. As soon as he got onstage, he ad-libbed a joke about Vanessa Hudgens‘ latest nude photo scandal. Only it wasn’t much a joke. The 37-year-old merely told Hudgens, using an over-the-top borderline racist accent, “Girl, you got to keep yo clothes on”.
Disney pop stars like Vanessa are as ripe for jokes as anyone, but Cook comes across looking like a creepster. In the past few years, his humor seems to have regressed from high school to junior high levels. If The Jonas Brothers (who hosted the show) had been the ones to make some kind of joke about the Hudgens scandal, then that would have been a different story.
Cook later told Access Hollywood:
I planned it about 20 minutes before I went out there. (I said it) because I like to be on the cusp of fear. Mostly I just wanted it to be funny. That’s the best part about being a comic, when you go, ‘Maybe I can say the thing that everybody is kind of feeling and nobody (is saying).’ The elephant-in-the-room (awkward) moment. So, I’ll take it, I’ll take the hit. It’s okay.”
First of all, his “joke” was met with boos, not laughs, and, second of all, he says he’ll “take the hit”. What hit? You’re not Lenny Bruce, Dane. Get over yourself.
