David O. Russell Bounces Back From ‘Nailed’ Saga: Sony Hires Him To Direct ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’

Sony has announced that David O. Russell will direct the upcoming adaptation of the bestselling Playstation 3 game, Uncharted, which centers around the adventures of a treasure hunter named Drake. Sony Pictures Co-President Matt Tolmach said:

David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy and amazing action sequences.

O. Russell chose the project instead of the Jim Carrey vehicle Under Cover, which he had been rumored to be pursuing. He is also currently attached to direct Vince Vaughn in Spirit of St. Louis, which will most likely go into production before Uncharted. His latest film, The Fighter, opens December 10. O. Russell has been quick to rebound after he walked away from the comedy Nailed last July. The pet project, which began production in 2008 with stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhall, has yet to be completed after it became of the victim of investor David Bergstein‘s financial mismanagement.
