Jimmy Fallon Is Ruining Late Night TV
In the case of Jimmy Fallon, practice does not make perfect. As this clip from Friday’s show demonstrates, the SNL vet still seems to be more than a little uncomfortable with the role of host of a late night talk show. The monologue portion of his show is usually the most painful, involving a certain amount of incoherent mumblings and awkwardly forced laughter.
It’s a little like watching a young stand-up comic at his first open mic. Instead of ending a joke with a snappy punch line, Fallon stretches it out until there’s no way to comfortably escape to the next joke. And what’s with that awful banter he does with his announcer? Their chemistry is about as electric as a dust ball.
