Flop Pop Fizzle, The Obligatory Weekend B.O. Report: The House Won, Will Ferrel ‘Lost’
With cheapie effects, a bad ad campaign, and even worse reviews, audiences just weren’t ready to get Lost this weekend. They were in the mood for Zach Galifinakis‘ hungover antics, though! Land of the Lost came in with a weak $18.8 million take for third place, while The Hangover took the number one spot with $45 million. Up was still flying high in second place with $44.1 million. From Chaplinesque futuristic robots, rats who can cook, and a crotchety Ed Asner traveling in a floating house, Pixar has proved yet again that they can get audiences to see literally anything that they put their animated-genius hands on.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian came in fourth with $14.6 million, making it’s cumulative total $127 million. Are parents really this desperate for family-friendly movies that they’ll settle for warmed-over crap like Night at the Museum? And finally, debuting in ninth with $3.32 million, My Life in Ruins showed that audiences weren’t willing to fall for Nia Vardalos’ Greek hustle and flow a second time. She might want to phone her agent because, after this flop, it looks like it’s her career that’s in ruins.
