‘Gilligan’s Island’ Movie In The Works

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has greenlight a big screen adaptation of the classic TV show Gilligan’s Island, which aired on CBS from 1964 to 1967. There is little else known about the project, except that original series creator Sherwood Schwartz will be involved. Schwartz, who also wrote the catchy theme song, has already voiced his preference for who should play the lovable goofball of a main character, Gilligan, originally inhabited by Bob Denver. It’s none other than the king of awkward himself, Michael Cera (most recently seen in the indie bomb, Youth in Revolt). Hopefully he re-thinks the casting. An angsty, in-jokey version of a Gilligan’s Island doesn’t exactly sound like great entertainment. Or does it?
