HEY, I THINK I SEE A CELEBRITY! All Chi-Town Sightings From 10/12-10/19
From time to time celebrities do step out of LA and New York to venture over to the windy city! They’re not always A-list, but what the heck, we’ll take what we can get. This week’s sightings, as compiled by Red Eye:
Kylie Minogue, who just wrapped up her first US tour, recently paid a visit to Chicago for a sold out show at The Congress Theater. The pop superstar dined at Ajasteak in the Dana Hotel. In what seems to be a trend for aging pop diva’s lately, Minogue is currently dating Spanish model Andrés Velencoso. When asked about the relationship in an interview for Elle magazine last April, she said,
All I’ll say is that my year has started off wonderfully.”
The Hanson brothers hung out at Piece on Sunday. The “Mmbop”ping trio were in town for a gig at the House of Blues as part of their fall tour. They’re also getting ready to release a new album, which Taylor Hanson described to Billboard magazine. He said,
There’s this sense of, ‘Wow, we’ve been doing this for awhile.’ It’s a little more energetic. There’s a freshness and excitement about it. You’ll hear it in the songs.”
Miss USA Kristen Dalton dined at Elate at the Hotel Felix on Thursday night. Dalton whose Miss USA win was upstaged by the brouhaha over rival contestant, Miss California, Carrie Prejean‘s statement against gay marriage, responded to the controversy at the time, saying,
Whoever knew you could win in a turquoise gown?”
Jaila Simms, a Chicago native, who has recently made headlines as the transgendered triple threat on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ new reality show, Making His Band, hung out at Between Boutique Cafe & Lounge on Thursday night. Simms talked to the Windy City Times about the difficulties of making it as a transgendered person. She said,
A lot of my tranny friends are so talented and sometimes get discouraged but you can’t let that beat you up.”
CSI: New York star and Lt. Dan Band lead singer, Gary Sinise was spotted at River Shannon on Friday night. Sinise, a founding member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf theater company, was asked by the Chicago Tribune if he has any interest in moving back to the Windy City. He responded by saying,
Would I want to move back to Chicago and live there? No. My life is out here now in Los Angeles, but I have deep roots in Chicago. Who knows? If they asked me if I wanted to do a Chicago show, I don’t know what I’d say.”
What is it that people don’t like about below freezing windchills?
R&B singer and actor, Tyrese Gibson, dined a few tables over from Project Runway winner and “Hot Tranny Mess” Christian Siriano at Sunda on Thursday night. The Transformers star talked about his philosophy on acting at this year’s Comic-con. He said,
We’re all interchangeable. At the end of the day, we’re featured artists in these films. We all have a fanbase that shows up to see us in these movies. But, people love movies. If anything doesn’t work out, contractually or politically, they’ll swap you out, put somebody else up in there, and the show must go on.”
Funny, you could say the same about annoying celebrity fashion designers.
Metallica members James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo and Fall Out Boy‘s Joe Trohman took in a UFO concert on Friday night. Who knew that 80s heavy metal had the power to unite aging supergroups and over-hyped Emo rockers?!
Comic Caroline Rhea, who was in town to perform her stand-up act for a cancer fundraiser, hung out at Rockit Bar and Grill’s River North location on Friday night. Rhea, who starred in the sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch for seven seasons back in the late 90s, talked about being recognized from her former sitcom with The Comic’s Comic in 2003. She said,
You’re eternally trapped. It’s like looking at Sabrina in syndication. Bad haircuts and strong medications.”
I wonder how she feels about being recognized for hosting The Biggest Loser.
Former That 70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama rapped at Enclave on Saturday night and then headed to Cuvee. While rapping former sitcom stars are usually a sight best left unseen, at least he wasn’t performing with K-Fed this time!
