Jane Lynch: Summer’s Secret Star
No matter what project she’s in, Jane Lynch commands all the attention. She’s best known for her work in the comedies of Christopher Guest and as Steve Carell‘s overly libidinous boss in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Lately, she’s been busy as hell. Since May, Lynch has starred in the TV shows Glee and Party Down (clip below) as well as the movies Post Grad, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Julie and Julia, where she plays Julia Child’s very tall sister (opposite Meryl Streep).
She’s even generating Oscar buzz for that role, despite having only about five minutes of screen time. That’s pretty amazing. Usually only Dame Judi Dench can pull that off. The media’s love affair with Lynch has grown so colossal that it’s now resulting in a slew of gushy, cornball articles about her, such as this one from Newsweek. You’d think writer Joshua Alston owned stock in her or something. Lynch is great. I think she’s hilarious, but, come on, she’s not the second coming. Besides, I’ve been a fan of hers ever since she was still doing cameos on 7th Heaven eight years ago. Why all the commotion now?
