John Cameron Mitchell’s Latest Film Takes Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart Down The ‘Rabbit Hole’

October 28th, 2010

John Cameron Mitchell rose to fame in 2001 when he directed and starred in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and followed that critically acclaimed debut with the less well received Shortbus in 2006. His latest film, an attempt to expand that repertoire, is Rabbit Hole, which stars Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as a couple dealing with the loss of their son. There’s less kinky sex and drag queens (unless you can count Kidman as one at this point) and more serious soul searching of the Sundance variety. In the trailer, Kidman looks a little less otherworldly than she did in Australia, where her Botox-induced bat brow took center stage. It may seem far fetched to buy her playing  a plain jane Mom, but it’s definitely easier to swallow that when she donned overalls and a frown to play a hard working farm girl in the movie adaptation of the Phillip Roth novel The Human Stain in 2004.
