Madonna’s Brother Tells Lady Gaga “To Fire Her Entire Creative Team” Over Latest Single’s Similarities To ‘Express Yourself’

Pop music is full of sound a like songs and in some cases  the similarities have even led to legal disputes.  In 1971, George Harrison was forced to give away most of the royalties for his song, “My Sweet Lord” when a U.S. Federal court ruled that it bore too much of a resemblance to  The Chiffons‘ “He’s So Fine”. Now Lady Gaga‘s newest single, “Born This Way,” a club ready disco hit that is sure to top the charts before the successful pop star releases a new album in May, and which the singer performed at last night’s Grammy ceremonies, is being singled out for its similarities to Madonna‘s 1989 classic “Express Yourself”. Madonna has yet to respond to the release of the song, but her brother Christopher hasn’t wasted any time voicing his opinion to the press. Madonna’s sibling said that he noticed the similarities immediately:

I was like, Express Yourself, wow. It’s not like it’s a direct copy, but it is more that song than any other song I’ve ever heard. I think when you have one major inspiration like my sister, which I think Lady Gaga uses as her major inspiration, that this kind of thing is bound to happen.

He said that he thinks Lady Gaga is , “a great songwriter and performer,” and blames her staff for allowing such a a blatant rip-off to be released:

Inspiration is one thing and to be inspired by all this stuff her and I created over the last twenty years, but outright imitation is not necessary. I assume Lady Gaga wants to be a legend, like all pop stars do, but this isn’t the way to do it. I think she should fire her entire creative team and hire me, because I can actually help her become what she wants to be.

Christopher worked with his famous sister throughout the 80s and early 90s, designing her iconic Blond Ambition Tour in 1990 and The Girlie Show in 1993, and, no doubt, still longs to be the right hand man to a reigning pop diva. He parted ways with his famous sister both personally and professionally around the time of Madonna’s marriage to Guy Ritchie. In the opening chapter to his tell all book Life With My Sister Madonna he wrote:

She will become mad with pride with fame, with the oleaginous pandering of the sycophants, the mindless adoration of the masses. And what she has given me — the joy of creating with her, of being with her, of loving her and being loved by her — she will ultimately take away.

Come on Gaga, give an unemployed famous sibling a break!
