Moviefone Names Best And Worst Christmas Movies Of All Time
The editors at Moviefone, the popular online resource for tickets and showtimes, have compiled a list of the best worst Christmas movies. Among the best are The Muppet Christmas Carol (my personal favorite), Scrooged, It’s A Wonderful Life and, at the top, A Christmas Story, the only movie to have the distinction of being played on rotaion for 24 hours on Christmas Day every year.
The list of the worst includes The Santa Clause 3, Deck The Halls, Four Christmases and, at the top — or bottom, I should say, How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The live action version of the classic Dr. Seuss book and cartoon short isn’t holding up so well with time. The editors at Moviefone call it:
A loud, garish and obnoxious film, certainly a career low for director Ron Howard – and it’s not exactly Jim Carrey‘s finest hour (or two), either.”
I remember seeing The Grinch on the big screen back in 2000. I left the theater feeling depressed and empty. Not even Monster’s Ball made me feel that awful. The movie made a ton of money nonetheless and inspired a clone a few years later in The Cat in the Hat, with Mike Myers in the Carrey role. That movie made less money and, thankfully, put an end to the creepy live-action adaptations of Seuss’ material.
