Rio de Janeiro Campaigns to be Woody Allen’s Next Muse
After winning bids to host the Olympics and the World cup, in 2016 and 2014 respectively, Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Paes is now campaigning to have legendary filmmaker Woody Allen shoot his next film in the city. According to the LA Times, Allen has been offered $2 million in tax subsidies if he agrees to the deal. And it looks like he just may take it, as his sister and production partner, Letty Aronson, has already been busy scouting locations there.
Allen shot his films exclusively in New York City for over thirty years until Match Point in 2004, which took place in London. He made another three features in Europe (Scoop, Cassandra’s Dream and Vicky Cristina Barcelona) until returning to the Big Apple for Whatever Works, his most recent comedy. Maybe he could film his first sequel in Brazil. Vicky Cristina Rio has a nice ring to it.
