Robin Williams To Play Susan Boyle?
When I saw Robin Williams do an unannounced stand-up set at the Lakeshore Theater last June, he responded to a heckler who was yelling, “Do Mrs. Doubtfire!” by saying, “This is why I do stand-up. So that I can get away from the scary people like you, who want to me to keep doing Mrs. Doubtfire for the rest of my life. ” While Williams may be tired of references to his famous gender-bending comedy smash from 1992, he hasn’t quite turned his back on getting in touch with his femine side on the big screen.
According to WENN, Williams is in talks to portray the Scottish singer Susan Boyle in an upcoming biopic based on her life story.
I’ve been asked if I want to play Susan in the movie. I think she’s incredible. That clip of her singing on Britain’s Got Talent was extraordinary. So inspiring. It was quite a shock when she began to sing. I saw some other clip of her singing “Cry Me A River” a few years ago. It was incredible. She’s got a really great voice.”
Apparently, Williams has been practicing his impression by singing “I Dreamed A Dream” to his friends. The project sounds fascinating (if it is indeed real), but does Williams really want to hear fans yell out “Do Susan Boyle!” for the rest of his life? After a few months of that, he’ll be wishing he signed on for Mrs. Doubtfire 2 instead.
UPDATE: This rumor has been debunked by Williams’ rep, who says that this project never has been nor will ever be in development.
Good one! I can actually picture this and I think it could be a hit!
This has been completely debunked by both Robin Williams’s reps and Piers Morgan. It’s simply not true. His reps called it a “ridiculous story.”
