Slow News Week For ‘The Insider’: Their Pathetic Four Part Interview With Gary Coleman Reaches New Infotainment Low

If you enjoyed the clip above, then there’s plenty more where that came from. Since ending his successful run on Diff’rent Strokes in 1986, Gary Coleman has battled a lot of personal demons. His arrests and media rants have stopped being surprising and has long since failed to ignite any speculative interest, unless you’re entertainment new program The Insider that is.

Starting last Monday, the show has been unveiling snippets of their interview with Coleman, which was “so explosive” that they decided to break it up into four parts and air it throughout this week like it’s Oprah and Whitney or something. Basically, The Insider invited Coleman on for a panel discussion and all the hosts did was provoke him intensely. It may be amusing for one second, but for four days? Do we really need to see somebody pointing a finger at a bipolar former child actor and declaring, “You beat your wife!”

Each day it was the same thing. Coleman would rant about something such as his distrust of women and then there would be a dramatic voiceover saying, “Wait until you see what Gary did next. Tomorrow on The Insider, watch what caused him to storm off the set.” Then, in between all of the clips, psychiatrists and (for some reason) Carnie Wilson would comment about Coleman’s behavior. “He needs meds,” one man suggested.

And I thought that the numerous Nancy Kerrigan interviews regarding her fallen father and deadbeat brother were tactless and uninteresting. I stand corrected. But be sure and stay tuned to The Insider tomorrow for their big Coleman finale. The host promises some good stuff: “See what he yelled to the cameras as he was leaving the studio. It may shock you!” I doubt it.
