VULTURE DROPPINGS OF THE WEEK: Horror Movie Remakes
It was 1930s studio mogul Samuel Goldwyn who warned, “It’s a mistake to remake a great picture, because you can never make it better. Better you should find a picture that was done badly and see what can be done to improve it.” Even though most remakes do little to improve on the original, the trend doesn’t seem likely to go away any time soon. Horror movie remakes like Friday the 13th and, more recently, A Nightmare on Elm Street have been doing big business with a new generation of audiences who are primed to experience yesterdays reheated cinematic leftovers.
