American Apparel Lawsuit Settled; Score One For The Wood-Man

After a month of back-and-forth brawling, the legal feud between Woody Allen and American Apparel has finally been settled. The legendary auteur charged that their billboard spread, which featured his likeness dressed as a Hasidic Jew, tarnished his public image. He called the ad campaign “sleazy and infantile.”

This led American Apparel’s lawyers to fire back by suggesting that the Woodman had no reputation to tarnish because of the whole Soon-Yi affair from way back when.

This trial had all the makings of a farce and looked to be more entertaining than some of Allen’s most recent drab movies such as Scoop and Cassandra’s Dream. But it all ended Monday at a Manhattan courthouse when the Woodman won$5 million in damages. American Apparel may have lost the lawsuit but they sure got a ton of publicity. I wonder what the clothing retailer will come up with next. A Roman Polanski Disco pants ad?
