YOUTUBE HYPE: Justin Bieber And Lady Gaga Battle It Out For Most Watched Video Of All Time

Yup. The above video for Justin Bieber‘s “Baby” is currently the most watched video of all time, according to YouTube. The tween sensation ousted Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance” from the top spot when his video garnered around 246 million views. Gaga, the too-often vocal pop star — whose most recent hit, “Alejandro,” is one of the most irritating songs ever written and is a ripoff of ABBA‘s “Fernando” and Ace of Base‘s “Don’t Turn Around” — has been trying to reclaim her title as #1, but has so far come up short. Bieber actually rose to fame through YouTube after homemade videos of him crooning his songs became popular and music execs took notice.

Frankly, I think it’s a sad time for pop music. It’s also disheartening to think that, of all the videos on YouTube, that these two are the most watched. Of course, the number of views is compiled by VEVO, a music website hosted by YouTube, which tracks how many people watch videos across its network. VEVO is co-owned by Sony, Universal and Abu Dhabi Media Co. Basically, all this talk of Bieber Vs. Gaga and the most watched video is merely hype created to keep every company with a vested interest on the up-and-up. (Or people are actually watching these videos that many times. I sure hope not).
